xHow To Identify Need-To-Know Content
Too much content – Not enough time?
Chances are that some of that content is nice-to-know rather than need-to-know.
When we’re designing training there’s always the challenge of:
- The sponsor (requester of the training) wanting the training to do EVERYTHING.
- The SME wanting you to include an overview encompassing the entire topic from how it was originated, changed over time and what it is now.
- You want to keep everyone happy.
Then the training grows and grows ending up with too much content and not enough time to cover it all.
But wouldn’t we get more impact and transfer into the workplace if, instead of learners hearing about 50 things and not being able to do any of them, that they left being able to do 5 things the way the business needed them to and that they could apply directly to their job role the minute they left the training?
Here’s a short lesson to give the skill to identify that Need-to-Know content.

Suggestion This is a fantastic tool to work with SME’s and Sponsors to really identify what’s needed.
