Looking At Live Virtual Training Differently

Welcome

My name's David Gibson and I'll be your training facilitator for your workshop, 'Looking At Live Virtual Training Differently'.

Your training website contains all the information that you need for our time together including:

Who you'll be working with

Resources will be added following each live episode.

Below is a short video I thought you might find useful in terms of preparing for your workshop.

Your workshop is made up of:

7 live virtual episodes, each one looking at a different part of training and training design.

Please have a workshop or piece of content that you feel will work in the virtual world that you can develop during our time together. Applying ideas directly to your own content does 2 things:

It helps embed your learning.
You leave with a completed piece of content ready to go.

Below is a tab for each day we will be working together. It contains the handouts you'll need during your training, so please have these available - either printed or in PowerPoint at the start of each episode.

We will be using MS Teams for your workshop.

20 February - Is Training The Answer

Episode 2

Separating The Need-To-Know Content From The Nice-To-Know Content

Date - Thursday 20 February 2025
Start time - 10:00 CET
Duration - 75-Minutes

This episode will take you along the path of being able to decide what training can and cannot help achieve and from that, whether training is really the solution to what you (and the organisation) currently see as a performance gap – because training is not the solution to everything.

If training is going to be the solution, then you’ll write the aim of the training. With that aim in mind, we’ll then use a matrix to select the key content that the business needs your learners to start using that they are not using now.

Your Task

Create an attention-grabbing title for your training.
Analyse the overall content of your training and identify the key content ie those high scoring priority pieces of content.

27 February - Objectives

Episode 3

How To Write Behavioural Based Objective

Date - Thursday 27 February 2025
Start time - 10:00 CET
Duration - 90-Minutes

Now that you've identified the key content for your training it’s time to write the objective for each of those pieces of content. These need to be Observable and Measurable. But how?

Your Task

Write the objective for the module you are developing.
Convert your objective into either a WIIFM from your learners' perspective or as a Challenge.
Create a slide in your slide deck for the WIIFM or Challenge. Your slide deck should now have the Title slide and either a WIIFM or Challenge.

6 March - Design Any Content

Episode 4

Design Any Content

Date - Thursday 6 March
Start time:

10:00 CET (Non-software focused training)
12:00 CET (Software focused)

Duration - 90 Minutes

Let's look at converting those objectives into Learner Centred training modules. Using the Learning Cycle gives you a structure to follow for any transfer method you're using ie Digital Lesson, eLearning, Live Virtual Training, Face-to-Face.

When we design Live Virtual Training, we should 'add' interaction, but 'design for collaboration'.

Leave with practical activities for encouraging interaction and some great collaorative ideas and activities that you can use for your very next live virtual training.

Techniques for helping increase learner content retention by up to 34%.
Learner centred opening activities that engage your learners from the moment their live training starts.
Closing techniques that bring everything together and encourage learners to create an action list of new techniques to apply back in the workplace.
