My name's David Gibson and I'll be your training facilitator for your workshop, 'Looking At Training Differently'.

3 x 90-minute live virtual episodes. These are the first 3 steps along the journey of designing and facilitating impactful training. (Phase 1)
2 x full days of face-to-face training where we'll continue your training journey. (Phase 2)

Your training is not a sit back and watch type of training - it's a roll up your sleeves and get designing workshop - So I ask you to come with one of your own workshops in mind so that you can work on it, applying new ideas to it during our time together. It can be a workshop that you need to create or one that you think would benefit from a little re-designing.

So that you get the most from our time together, can I ask you to keep your webcams on throughout your virtual training and continually participate. Don't worry, I'll never put you on the spot or ask you something without giving time prior to consider your possible response.

Separating The Need-To-Know Content From The Nice-To-Know Content

First, let’s determine if training is really going to be the solution to an identified performance gap.
Assuming that training is part of the answer, let’s write what the training should achieve from an organisational perspective.
Because we typically try to add EVERYTHING into the training, now’s the time to really separate the need-to-know from the nice-to-know.

How to Make Your Training Clear and Focused

This is where focused training begins.
Before you start designing your content, you need to be clear on what you want learners to be able to do. This is where behavioural based objectives come in. They're simple to write, guide your training. and help keep it on track – for you and your learners.

Your Task

Write the objectives for your own workshop key content (identified via the Priority Matrix).
Convert your objectives into either learner What's In It For Me (WIIFM's) and/or learner challenges.

24 April 2026 - Clarity

Now that you know where you're headed, it's time to build the journey.

You know your topic, now let's look at how you teach it by turning your objectives into learner-centred modules. Here you'll start using the Learning Cycle – a simple structure that works whether you're designing a digital module, a live virtual module, a face-to-face module, or anything in between.
It's your go-to tool for making sure that your learners can DO what your objective states.

Arriving Day 1 Bergamo - 6 May 2026

Start time - 09:00 CET - End Time - 17:00 CET (Both Days)

Room 6, Ground Floor

Please arrive in your training room between 8.30 am and 9.00 am on the first day as the workshop will start promptly at 9.00 am and we don’t want you to miss a thing.

On the morning of your workshop, after signing in at reception, make your way to the training room where I'll be waiting to welcome you and ensure your comfort. When you choose your seat, you’ll find yourself in a small group of people to facilitate the frequent group exercises planned. Flip charts will be provided to record discussions and conclusions. You will be comfortable here.

Refreshments will be available throughout your training. Likewise for lunch, this will be provided. We’ll lunch together, that way, I’m available if you want to chat over anything from the training etc.

We are often asked, “What should I wear?” If you feel more comfortable in work clothes, dress as you would in the office. If you feel more comfortable in casual clothes then dress in casual clothes (company policy permitting). We want you to feel relaxed and comfortable.

This is a workshop full of structured experiences. Please, do not attend this workshop if what you want is non-stop lecture material. You could get that from a book. Yes, this has great content, but come to this for the experiences that become embedded in your mind and body. Our personal goal is that you will ‘own’ the material after your workshop, not just ‘rent it’ for 2-days. I want you to learn both implicitly and explicitly. The value you get is more impact and longer lasting learning.

It is always nice if you are able to take care of personal and work-related business before arriving for your workshop. If you’re able to leave your worries at home you can devote full attention to the workshop. While some workshops seem to ‘taper off’ during the last few hours, Eureka’s workshops go ‘full steam ahead’ up until the final moment. We’ll end on schedule but please do not expect to finish early on day 2.

Expect to uncover (but not limited to) ...

🧠 It looks like we’ve prepared the training well so far, but how do we prepare our learners? Research suggests that with correct priming, we can increase retention by 34%, but how and when should we do this?

🎬 Good, we’ve designed great modules, but we need to top and tail those with a workshop opening and close that are not about us but all focused upon our learners.

🔁 Another piece of research tells us that if we don’t include multiple learner-focused reviews into our training, 80% will be forgotten by the next day, so we better add these in too.

⚡ But how do we keep our learners ready to learn from start to finish? Well, that’s where state changes come into play.

🌱 One more thing we still need to consider – providing an enriched learning environment to wrap around our training.

🤔 Hmmm, but why should we be doing all this when a simple set of slides would do? Well, they might do, but do they align with all of the research on how the brain learns and the different types of brain you might have within your workshop? Answer: no. So what is the science and how do I use it to maximise learning potential?
